The role of a pastor is not only to tell the congregation what it wants to hear but to deliver God's message. The congregants can then decide whether to obey God or not.
Genesis 3:9 When God asks the question he already has the answer. But he asks it to help us to search ourselves. When God said, "Adam where are you?" he wanted Adam to search himself. On any subject matter God can ask us "Where are you?"
Malachi 3:8 God again asks a question that we need to think about. "Will a man rob God?" Let me also ask all of you in front of me today, "Where are you regarding tithes and offerings?" "Are you robbing God?"
What is a tithe?
Leviticus 27:30-32 Ten percent of your income is the Lord's. (one out of every ten). Tithe is the Lord's. It is holy unto the Lord.
The government takes its tax from you but God encourages you to voluntarily give him his tithe. God gives us an opportunity to be faithful. He does not force us to give him his tithe.
Matthew 22:15-21 Render to Caesar what belongs to Caesar and to God what is His.
Hebrews 7:4-10 The Levites received tithes, but Levi also paid the tithes when he was in the loins of Abraham. Note that this verse does not say Levi offered, but paid. It is because the tithe is not ours.
Malachi 3:10 "Bring all the tithes..."
Deuteronomy 8:10-18 Remember that it is God who gave you power to get wealth. Do not think that you are making it on your own. Beware that you do not forget the Lord your God.
Benefits (Blessings) of a tither
If you need the blessings of a tither, then you should tithe.
Malachi 3:8-12
We must not rob God or else we will be under a curse.
Playing a role in making sure that there is food in God's house.
The Lord will open windows of heaven and shower us with blessings.
The Lord will rebuke the devourer for our sake.
You will have a delightful land and people will call you blessed.
>This is a heart issue. It is a matter between you and your God.
>It takes the work of the Holy Spirit for you to understand this.
>The natural human reaction is to defend keeping money.
>Luke 16:10-15 God wants to see if we will be faithful with money. If you are unfaithful with money, how can God trust you with bigger things? No one can serve two masters. You cannot serve both God and money.
>1Chronicles 29:14-18 When we give, we are giving God from what he gave us first. We should do it willingly knowing that God knows what is in our hearts.
>2Corinthians 9:5- Give as you have purposed in your heart; not grudgingly.
2Corinthians 9:8,11 God makes all grace come to us in abundance, so that we may always under all circumstances and whatever the need be self sufficient. We are enriched in every way so that we can be generous on every occasion. You may look at this verse in NIV translation:
"God is able to make all grace abound to you, so that in all things at all times, having all you need, you will abound in every good work." "You will be made rich in every way so that you can be generous on every occasion…"
